Covid-19: A Letter to Gym
In many ways, this quarantine is a test of my relationship with the gym.
Dear Gym,
How are things working out? Hope you’re well. It’s been a while. Things change. Like the numbers on the scale.
I’m writing to get some things off my chest. No, it’s not the bench press.
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Who knew that you were such a integral part of my life. If I could turn back time, I would cherish the time we had together, instead of complaining about your lack of racks.
Alas, you aren’t opening up anytime soon.. so might as well start paying attention to that Calisthenics idea that I’ve been toying with. Oh please don’t pick on Cali, he’s just a friend trying to help.
Then there’s old honest Cardio. Recently he’s been wildly popular. Too popular too furious I reckon. One jogger recently suffered a collapsed lung while wearing a mask, another got murdered in the now empty street. Cardio proved to be a dangerous workout partner.
Sigh, I could still remember the look you had when I finished the last session with you, as I tossed your weights as if conquered – the look that beckoned “same place same time tomorrow night.” I can only imagine your disappointment if we finally meet, to see that I no longer have that abs.
Long distance relationships are known to be turbulent, ours is no different. It is with heavy shoulders that I say…
